Out of order- Day 3 Pediatrics in hospital and Bomet

Spent about three hours today at an integrated school helping put together and fit 4 wheelchairs. Kids really warmed up after a while. They loved looking through my photos on phone and taking shots. (See below) They want my "husband to come here". I think maybe next year. :) Plenty of work for Dave to do.
There are 850 people working at the hospital this week (30 are from Vanderbilt Hospital here for two weeks to do pediatric open heart surgery) It is a very busy place. Lots of scheduled surgeries, outpatient orthopedic and neuro injuries, maternity...They have a lot of full time Kenyan help ,some full time American help (apparently a couple can live here rent, food, utilities...for $600/mos) and many visitors like Emily and self here for some duration.
It is encouraging to see the full time crew working so diligently with such little compensation and such sparse supplies. For example, Rehab desperately needs Velcro for the splints -had I known before coming... I'm not sure how they apply the splints- duct tape/ strips of sheets?
Families of the patients might have travelled a distance to get them here so they seem to stick around overnight in little huts nearby or on the lawns around the hospital during the daytime.
Most people have been so lovely and a parent today told me to thank America for sending help to Kenya. Most are at least nominal Christian, some Muslim, some probably have one animistic worship. The same man reminded me that we are First of all, God's children ,and then secondly, our nationality.
